Battle in Lewis Center
My travels took me to Lewis center as I saw a battle of league leaders take place between Coffman and Olentangy. Both recently were seeded in the top-12 of the upcoming state tournament. This was a fast-paced game at the outset which favored Coffman and allowed them to set the tempo. They were able to establish themselves on the inside and from the perimeter. They were able to grab a 22-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. They continued their dominance scoring the first 7 points of the quarter and having their biggest lead of the game at 12. Give the Braves credit they were able to get back in the game thanks to Regan Richardson and Meg Spohn and were able to cut Coffman’s lead to 33-28 at the half. The 3rd quarter was a defensive struggle as both teams struggled offensively and clamped down defensively. Olentangy was able to score the first 6 points of the quarter and grab their first lead of the game at 34-33. This was short-lived as behind some clutch 3-point shooting was able to go a 10-0 run to close the quarter and grab a 43-34 going into the 4th quarter. The 4th quarter showed why Coffman will be a tough out in the tournament as they made enough plays in a grind it out game and were able to get contributions from everyone. They were able to get timely baskets from Cassidy Lafler and Jenna Kopyar and played good defense to beat a good Olentangy team. Coffman beat Olentangy 53-44. With the win Coffman improves to 16-1 while Olentangy drops to 10-4. Tessa Grady led all scorers with 16 points while meg spohn and regan Richardson led Olentangy with 12 points a piece
