Battle on the Eastside
Walnut ridge and Independence are separated by 3 miles. Last night I tuned in as they did battle. This was a game that looked like early on that it was going to be a blowout as the 76ers had full control early leading 13-2 but give the Scots credit as they battled back to make a 15-10 game at the end of the first quarter. The 2nd quarter was a nip and tuck affair as the 76ers were able to hold off the Scots thanks to timely baskets and great defense and were able to hold a slim 27-24 lead at the half. The 3rd quarter continued to be close as Independence held no more than a 5-point lead over the Scots. The Scots stayed close thanks to the great play of Neveah Reaves. At the end of the quarter, the scots were down 41-40. The scots were able to come all the back to tie it at 41. The 76ers were able to seize control the rest of the way and we’re finally able to pull away out scoring the scots 16-4 the rest of the way to win 57-45. This was a game that both teams had missed opportunities from the field and the line. With the win, Independence improved to 3-2 while Walnut Ridge dropped to 2-3. Brenae Anyamene led all scorers with 16 points while McKenzie white led independence with 15 points.
